Honest Ecommerce: Building on Success

Buying and selling preowned technology on ecommerce platforms has become a veritable minefield of exploitative policies and pricing.

Research indicates that users are generally distrustful of platforms that perpetuate deceptive practices (e.g., preferential listing charges), incorporate unnecessary navigational obstacles, and infuse confusion with pricing that seems wholly detached from fairness or equity.

For the Techichi website project, Shaughnessy Design weighed options to expand on smartly crafted features and aesthetics that drove the original Techichi app project to success. While the challenges for each project were unique, both initiatives shared the same overarching goal of alleviating sweeping user distrust in the tech ecommerce marketplace space, ultimately serving the ends of decreasing drop-off rates while increasing user retention.

challenge.

The challenge with the second Techichi project became an effort in how to take one experience—in this case the original Techichi app—and reimagine it in a refreshing though complimentary way. At the same time, Shaughnessy Design had to leverage added real estate of the desktop environment to expand on features we developed for the initial app, yet have those features make sense when paired down for smaller devices.

Lessons Learned: The key takeaway from designing the second Techici experience was found in dispelling a somewhat commonly held misconception—that design uniformity across experiences is paramount. We found that you can give your users the best of both worlds by refreshing certain elements of an experience while retaining selective uniformity.

solution.

Shaughnessy Design succeeded in its efforts to expand upon the original Techichi app design while offering users a refreshing take on an otherwise familiar experience.

We achieved an overall design refresh by firstly leveraging the Techichi brand palette in a slightly different way. While the overall color scheme remained the same, we opted to shift palette weights and really root the foundation of the experience in a darker, yet complimentary background that succeeds in unifying brand identity across the user flow in a way that is evocative without being overwhelming.

Shaughnessy Design also expanded upon an already robust feature set through further design updates, improved transitions and animated elements, and more expansive data included in preview elements (e.g., item overview cards).
